Fort Worth, TX
"Black Oilers Administer Calimine Bath to Panthers, Hunter Lets Fort Worth Down With Five (5) Hits. Only one Man reaches Third Base. - In the initial appearance of the Black Oilers on the home Diamond the local team was drubbed to the thumb of five to nothing. Too much Hunter tells the story. The Oilers slabman had the hard hitting Panthers eating out of his hand from the sound of the gong until the last man was out in the ninth. Only once did the Panthers have the chance to score. With a five run lead Hunter became careless and the Panthers with one single and a scratch hit managed to get two on with none out. A phenomenal catch by Sims of a line drive from White's bat which Simms turned into a double play by doubling W. Jones at second naved the Oilers slabsmen from being scored on. On the other hand the Oilers took to the offering of Haynes and batted him for a total of ten hits and five scores. The chief feature of the game was a running catch by Roy of a drive from Whit's bat in which Roy fell but held the ball."

"Black Panthers Win Over Black Oilers - After eighteen innings of faultless ball, the Fort Worth Black Panthers of the Texas Negro League won over the Beaumont Black Oilers at Panther Park Sunday, Score, 2 to 1. Both Rector of Fort Worth and Hubbard of the Oilers pitched great ball, Rector allowing only one base on balls in the entire route, and getting fourteen strike-outs. Johnson Hill, at third base for the Panthers also played excellent ball."

Fort Worth, TX
"Fort Worth Panthers Defeated Beaumont Oilers in 18 Inning Game With a Score of 2 to 1. - One of the hardest fought battles of the season was staged at Panther Park Sunday afternoon, When the Fort Worth Panthers defeated Beaumont Oilers in an 18 Inning game with a score of 2 to 1. The game was marked with much thrills. Much credit is due both pitchers. Rector for Fort Worth allowed only one man to walk, with 14 strike outs to his credit. Jesse Hubbard who played last year with the Brooklyn Giants pitched a faultless game that will long be remembered. With thirteen strike-outs to his credit. Without doubt this was the best game that was ever played on the home grounds this season. The remarkable playing of Johnson Hill, Fort Worth Premier third sacker was one of the main features of the game. When a hot one came to him from Whit's bat that the smoke itself was puffing from it, but the famous third sacker did not resist a bit, just picked it up like it was a piece of hot cake and tossed it to the great first sacker which was L. Jones. Much credit is due L. Jones for many star plays. He drudged the ball from the earth, on a hug to the ground that saved the dangerous Oilers from their last chance of scoring."

"Base Ball - Black Oilers Come for Two Games - Dallas bugs will be given their first chance of the season to give the Black Oilers that firey bunch from the city on neches the once over. In the coming of the Black Oilers, fans will also see in action one of the strongest Negro clubs south of the Mason and Dixon line. The club has a team of seasoned stars that can be accounted on anywhere and at any time. The home team is anxious to spring a surpise on the bus, in the two games with Beaumont, Sunday and Monday, May 16 and 17 by giving the bugs a spank brand new club. Manager Whitaker and his manager are combing the Woods for material with which to build a fighting machine worthy of recognition. Collins has been released and several other on the club will get the pink slip in time. If the scouts that are now scouring the brushes succeed in landing some good material, Giant stock will again soar in Dallas."

"Base ball - By J. Alba Austin - Beaumont Oilers will mix in a three game series with the Giants Sunday and Monday, June 13 and 14, at Gardner Park with a double header Monday. In the coming of the Oilers fans may expect to see a real ball game, as the Oilers are a tough bunch and the Giants' Machine is fastly rounding into a formidable outfit and in the contest some classy stuff will be dished out to local bugs. Ruben Jones has his eyes on the ball. Hamilton, the local popular short fielder is expecting some clever stunts with the stick. Jerry Williams the Giants star second sacker, is smashing the bean at a teriffic clip. Vash Harris is rounded into a high-class fly chaser. His work in left garden Sunday was somewhat spectacular. His sensational running catch Sunday saved the Giants from a much earlier defeat. Daniel's work in the box Sunday was a clever bit of hurling. He has the kick in that right soup bone. Mr. Cohen, proprietor of Cohen's Millinery and Ready-to-wear is an enthusiastic follower of base ball. He has put up a prize for the first batter who hits the fence clearly on either side with a batted ball, will be rewarded by him a $5.00 bill. Mr. Cohen made similar offers to Colored teams last year. The Giants are 40 per cent stronger now than at any time during the organization of the machine."

Score 3-2. Forest pitched excellent ball for the Oilers until the fourteenth inning, when a single by L. Jones of the Panthers followed by a fumble by Storey, shortstop of the Oilers, unsteadied him. Johnson Hill followed with a double and the game was over. Fielding by Lopez, the Cuban second baseman of the Panthers, and W. Jones at shortstop, featured the pitchers' duel between Forest and Harris. The same teams play a double-header today, the first game starting at 3 o'clock.
