"Lincolns Double Victors. - Make an Auspicious Start in Season's Opening Games. - The first semi-pro baseball games of the season were played yesterday at Olympic Field, where the Lincoln Giants, last season's Eastern champions, defeated the Chesters, 11 to 0, and the Maujers, 4 to 0. Next Sunday the Lincolns will play the New London club and the Elmhurst team."

"Lincolns Double Victors. - Defeat New London and Elmhurst Clubs. - The Lincoln Giants won two more games yesterday at Olympic Field, defeating the New London Club, 2 to 1, and the Elmhurst nine, 9 to 0. Williams pitched part of the first game and went the route in the second. Next Sunday the Lincolns will meet the College Point and Ironsides teams."

"Winning Streak Broken. - Highbridge Nine Defeats Lincoln Giants Through Rally in Ninth. - The Lincoln Giants' string of victories was shattered yesterday at Olympic Field in the second game of a double header by the Highbridge nine, which won 5 to 3. In the last inning Nestor was hit by a pitched ball. Linder singled and after Forbes booted Farricker's roller Wendell and Wernecke singled, three runs resulting. In the first game the Lincolns beat Danbury 8 to 0. Next Sunday the Lincolns will play the Camp Meritt and Hunt's Point teams."

The feature of the game will be the first appearance of Cannonball Dick Redding, who will be in the box for the Royal Giants, and will be opposed by his old teammate and rival, Cyclone Joe Williams, in the opening game at 1:30 p.m. In the final session Big Tom Williams, the wonder from the Chicago American Giants, will twirl for the Royals and will be opposed by Phil Cockrell, the spitball artist of the Lincoln Giants."

"Lincolns Lose Two Games. - Drop Opener to Royal Giants in Twelfth - New Pitching Stars. - In two keenly contested games at Olympic Field yesterday the Royal Giants took the measure of the Lincoln Giants, 4 to 3 in twelve innings and 4 to 3 in regulation time. In the first game two new star semi-pro pitchers were unearthed in Tom Williams of the Royals and Cockrell of the Lincolns. They pitched splendid ball for eleven innings before each was relieved. Both received rounds of applause from the biggest crowd ever seen at the ball park. Redding beat Joe Williams in the second game. Next Sunday the Lincolns will play two games with the Cuban Stars."

"Cubans Lose Two Games. - Padron Twice Knocked Out of Box by Lincoln Giants. - The Lincoln Giants twice knocked Padron out of the box and scored a double victory over the Cuban Stars of Havana at Olympic Field yesterday. The scores were 11 to 6 and 13 to 5. In the second game Williams and McLoughlin of the Lincolns hit the ball over the centre field fence for a home run. Next Sunday the Lincolns will play Highbridge and New London.

Wernecke, who was to have pitched for the Athletics, reported yesterday morning to his draft board to join the colors. In the first game the Lincolns beat the New London club, 6 to 4. Next Sunday the Brooklyn Royal Giants will play two games with the Lincolns."

In a recent contest he lost the decision to Williams, and he will hook up with the 'string bean' again today. The Lincolns hold a slight advantage in the series, and judging from the way they have been going in recent weeks they should at least break even with their old rivals."

"Battle Fifteen Innings. - Lincolns Earn an Even Break With the Cuban Stars. - In a double header at Olympic Field yesterday the Lincoln Giants got an even break with the Cuban Stars. however, the Lincolns had to go some to escape a double defeat, for their victory in the second game came only after fifteen innings, by 5 to 4. In the first contest the Cubans triumphed by 12 to 5. Williams and Fabre had it out again in the long game and the Lincoln pitcher avenged his recent defeat by the little hurler from Havana."

Dan Griner of the Superbas fared almost as badly in the other game, in which he pitched for the Minor Leaguers. The Lincolns won that tilt by 7 to 1."

"Talcott of Yale Defeats Lincolns - Pitches Winning Ball for Paterson Silk Sox. - Frank Talcott, Yale's pitching sensation last spring, when he won ten of the eleven victories credited to the Elis, made his first appearance in this city yesterday afternoon. Talcott, who is the son of a one time leading stockholder in the Giants, pitched for the Doherty Silk Sox of Paterson against the Lincoln Giants at Olympic Field. He allowed only two hits in five innings and the Silk Sox won by 4 to 0. In the first game the Lincolns defeated the Newark Stars by 6 to 4 in twelve innings."

"Yale Star Again Pitches Fine Game - Talcott Holds Lincolns to Four Hits. - Frank Talcott of Yale yesterday pitched the Paterson Silk Sox to their second successive victory over the Lincoln Giants by 4 to 1 at Olympic Field. The Lincolns got only four hits. The Silk Sox, who presented practically an all major league lineup, put the game on ice in the first inning with two counters. In the first game the Newark Stars again won from the Lincolns by 3 to 2. Next Sunday the Lincolns will play the Giants."

In the first game the Lincolns defeated the Newark Stars, who also had beaten them twice, by 2 to 1. The Lincolns beat Talcott in a batting rally in the third, and it netted four runs."

"Talcott Shelled Off Pitching Hill - Lincoln Giants Get Six Runs in First Round. - After having dropped two straight to the Paterson Silk Sox, the Lincoln Giants in turn yesterday made it two straight over the Sox at Olympic Field in Harlem. The Lincolns won by 6 to 5, thanks to a six run rally in the opening inning. This shelled Frank Talcott off the mound and Jimmy Clinton went into the box. Clinton held the Lincolns without a run and to only three hits for the rest of the encounter. In the second game the Lincolns and the Tietjen and Lang shipyard nine played five innings to a scoreless tie, darkness forcing a halt."

"Thomahlen Proves Easy for Lincolns - Caldwell Does Better, but to No Avail. - Baseball competition in this section was ended for the season yesterday afternoon at Olympic Field. The Lincoln Giants celebrated the wind up with a double victory, beating the Tietjen and Lang Shipbuilders by 13 to 3 and the New Londons by 7 to 0. Thormahlen and Caldwell of the Yankees did the pitching for Tietjen and Lang. Thormahlen was knocked out in the third inning and Caldwell held the Lincolns down for the rest of the game."
