"Cairo, Illinois Baseball Dope. - The Cairo Giants, who have been playing successful ball the past season, will cross bats with Green's Nebraska Indians, Labor Day, Monday, September 7. Manger Owens went to an enormous expense to secure these boys from the Nebraska State, while Captain Heard nearly over worked himself to get the boys in trim for this game. So the Captain and manager both look for a good attendance at the game on the above named date. The game between the Fats and Leans for the benefit of the Cairo colored hospital was played Sunday Aug 30."

"The East St. Louis Giants Defeat Nebraska Indians. - The East St. Louis Giants defeated the Nebraska Indians in a 14-inning game in East St. Louis, Illinois, September 13. The game was full of exciting plays on both sides. Smith, the coal miner, had all the best of the pitcher's duel while Schaeffer, on the receiving end, cut down base stealers with ease. The Giants easily have the greatest team in Southern Illinois. Magee, Smith and Trady do great batting, while Schaeffer laid down the perfect bunts that caused the scoring."
