"Birmingham Athletics Overcome Montgomery Giants. - Special to the Freeman: Birmingham, Alabama - The Birmingham fans witnessed the most sensational series of game played on the baseball diamond this season. Notwithstanding the intense heat of the burning sun, the bleachers and grandstand of Delta View Park were crowded to their utmost capacity. This attendance prevailed each day throughout the series. For three days the ambitious Giants fought like demons to down the scientific playing Athletics, but it was not the decree of the baseball gods that they should even get a glimpse of victory and yet they were brave and daring in their attempt to conquer. The first day Birmingham Athletics won, 2 to 1. Second day a double header, 6 to 1 (first game) second game 1 to 0. The third and last day shut them out, 11 to 0. Montgomery's only hope of victory lay in the pitching strength of their star, Horace Mays, hiterhto undefeated, while the Birmingham Athletics leaned on invincible arms of her stars, Johnnie Goodgame and Taylor. Thus they were awarded the victory."
